About Swati Agarwal
Swati Agarwal, MD, graduated from the SMS Medical College in Jaipur, India, where she also completed a residency in ophthalmology. She then completed a clinical fellowship in vitreo retina at Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai, India. After moving to the United States, Dr. Agarwal completed a retina research fellowship at the University of Florida, followed by a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, and an internship in general surgery at Robert Pack Hospital in Pennsylvania.
Prior to joining the faculty of the UF College of Medicine Department of Ophthalmology, Dr. Agarwal was a clinical instructor of pediatric ophthalmology at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh as well as at the University of Wisconsin. Dr. Agarwal also was a consultant ophthalmologist of pediatric and adult strabismus, retinopathy of prematurity and lasers, medial retina in Las Vegas.
Teaching Interests and Roles
As an academic physician, Dr Agarwal-Sinha provides training to resident-physicians, fellow physicians, medical students and staff; actively participate in teaching-conferences and grand-rounds; and perform all other educational and clinical duties as assigned by the department. She encourages students to develop, refine and apply clinical knowledge and surgical skills in a realistic clinical situation as they participate in interactive learning experiences in the clinics, operative rooms and emergent care to meet their educational needs.

Dr. Agarwal’s research interests include retinopathy of prematurity, anti-angiogenesis treatments and retinal imaging (ocular coherence tomography, fluorescein angiography), pediatric strabismus, age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. She is the Principal investigator for NIH funded PEDIG studies since 2014 and for cerebrotendinous xantomatosis (CTX) Prevalence study since 2016. She had previously worked on many multi-centric clinical trials conducted by Diabetic retinopathy clinical trial network (DRCR.net), Age related eye disease investigators group (AREDS) and Vertex pharmaceutical clinical study in patients with cystic fibrosis. She currently has multiple ongoing clinical and translational research projects in the department.
