About Ramin Daneshvar

Hello, my name is Dr. Ramin Daneshvar. I am mainly a clinician, seeing and treating many patients daily. Still, I also try to be a good teacher and mentor to show my students and residents the great responsibility they have to prevent a disease like glaucoma with irreversible blindness. Our ultimate goal is to improve the quality of life of our patients, and an academic setting that integrates clinical work, teaching, and research is the best play to do that. I love to do research to find better diagnostic and therapeutic measures for eye diseases, especially glaucoma.

As a second grader in elementary school, I was walking home when I accidentally hit the white cane of a blind person coming from the opposite side. He gently swiped the area in front of him and passed me cautiously and slowly, and excused me while passing me because of hitting me with his cane. This was the first time that I saw a blind person, and I felt sad and ashamed of why I was in his way and couldn’t help him to recognize his way more effortlessly. I promised myself to help blind people as much as possible, and it was the moment that I decided what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I should be someone to help those who are not healthy, a physician who helps those with eye diseases, and an eye doctor who helps those with blindness or blinding conditions. That was my goal from that moment onwards, and I strived every moment to reach that goal. This is a journey I am still in, and I endeavor every second of my professional life to fulfill that big target.

As a physician treating a chronic disease, I aim to develop a trustful, friendly relationship with all my patients. It is of utmost importance for the patient to know that we need to work together to halt or slow down the disease progression. Unfortunately, there is no one-time treatment for many glaucoma patients; however, with long-term follow-up and utilizing different treatment options, it is possible to prevent visual impairment and blindness in almost all glaucoma patients.

Besides my professional life, I enjoy spending time with my lovely wife and adorable son. Being a dad is the greatest joy of life. I am also interested in spending my time with data science projects, programming, and doing DIY jobs at home. Walking, running, and swimming are also my hobbies.
