About Allan Farquhar

Hello, my name is Allan Farquhar, MD, and I am a board-certified ophthalmologist and clinical assistant professor of ophthalmology at the University of Florida. I was raised in upstate New York and after high school, went on to graduate from undergrad and medical school at the University of Vermont, where I met my wife, Cara.

Following medical school, we moved to New York City, where I completed a residency in ophthalmology at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. I was inspired to become a physician based on my father’s career as a board-certified ophthalmologist and general surgeon. From early childhood onward, I watched how much his compassion and understanding made a difference in his patients and in our community. After graduation, I began working in upstate New York with my father in his practice, which I later purchased and grew over a successful 20-year career.

After retiring from my primary practice in New York, we moved to St. Augustine, Florida, where we are enjoying the history and culture of the beautiful city, as well as running, gardening, surfing, boating and spending time at the beach. I enjoy anything fitness or outdoors-related.

In the past, I have enjoyed participating in international volunteer surgical missions. I have been working since I was 11 years old in various jobs before embarking on a career in medicine. Throughout my life and work, my interactions with people have been my favorite part.

I specialize in treating patients with cataract, glaucoma, corneal disease, external eye disease and macular degeneration. My goal as a physician is to provide the highest level of compassionate and competent medical care to my patients. I have happily drawn from my father’s legacy to continue to help others in the privileged role as a physician and look forward to helping many more patients.
