About Larry Ferdinand

My name is Dr. Larry and I’m a board-certified ophthalmologist who has been practicing comprehensive ophthalmology for twelve years. I graduated cum laude from Xavier University of Louisiana with a major in biology pre-med in 2001. I went on to complete medical school at Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C., in 2007. After finishing ophthalmology residency at Howard University Hospital, I went into private practice in Southern Mississippi, providing eye care to an underserved working-class population for seven years. Afterwards, I worked as a full-time comprehensive ophthalmologist for Ochsner Medical Center in Covington, LA, for five years.

I specialize in cataract surgery and femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery along with glaucoma management with specialized laser treatments. I am a member of the American Medical Association, National Medical Association, Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, New Orleans Academy of Ophthalmology and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

I am married to Tara Ferdinand and have a 7-year-old son, Larry III. I enjoy mentoring, community service and activities with my fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. My mission is to create comradery, diversity, inclusion and equity within the field of ophthalmology and surrounding medical community and also to leave a legacy of leadership and excellence.
